Mood Disorders
Dr. Hochman specializes in comprehensive treatment of mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder that have been poorly responsive to other trials of treatment. As a physician he can prescribe medication, but he also performs several types of therapy to best identify and heal the actual source of the symptoms. Most pitfalls in mental health treatment occur because of either a lack of trust in the provider, or the provider having a narrow set of skills that does not properly address the issue. Dr. Hochman will take the time to review your past treatment, and enjoys improving on previous setbacks or gaps to help you reach new heights.

Medical Diseases
While most medical illness is treated by a primary care doctor with a strictly "medical" approach, Dr. Hochman believes in providing a psychological and behavioral approach to medical diseases in cases where improvement is not being made with their doctor's routine treatment. He has sought out special training and expertise in several conditions, including overweight/obesity, insomnia, pain, headaches and smoking dependence. Treatment is tailored to your specific needs, and will address your mental health, nutrition, exercise, social and environmental factors, and other medical illness. True health is only attained when the mind and body are helping each other.

Substance Abuse
Substance abuse can be difficult for providers to treat because of the combination of biological addiction, psychological factors and distress driving the behavior, and the social and environmental triggers. Dr. Hochman has experience addressing these fully to achieve sobriety with or without medication. He also has a special certification to provide suboxone (buprenorphine and naloxone) for opiate dependence if needed. Treatment will involve careful integration into your new lifestyle. He will allow you to discover new ways to improve with more confidence. He is the founder and creator of selfrecovery.org, a private online addiction program.

Life issues
There are a range of life issues that respond very well to therapy, from lack of career fulfillment to marital discord, to aging related issues, anger and loss of purpose. Dr. Hochman is always curious to explore with patients their traits and characteristics, and how those might be involved in creating or continuing their distress. He does not try to change who you are, but rather how you are. His therapy style will expand your capacity to draw on your positive attributes, while challenging the unhealthy behaviors or negative feelings that are often well-intentioned efforts gone wrong.

Your first appointment |
Payment |
First appointments can be both anxiety provoking and frustrating to arrange. Dr. Hochman speaks directly to you when you call, where he will spend time answering general questions about treatment before even initiating care so that you can feel comfortable with your decision to start treatment. After this is done, he will recommend and explain the type and frequency of treatment. In general, follow-up appointments are 45-50 minutes in order to properly allow for real gains.

In-network insurance is not accepted at this location, but you can check with your insurance benefits to find out if you have "out of network" mental health coverage that can provide some financial contribution. If so, the office will provide you a form that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Call to find out pricing information or other finance related questions.

Therapy Dog
Dogs can provide the comfort and attunement some patients need to open up with confidence. Dr. Hochman provides a trained therapy dog upon request to be present during your visit. Patients may also come with their own therapy dog after discussion, and documentation is provided.
